Betsy was born in Harrogate, Yorkshire, in 1959 and was brought
up and educated in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. She attended the Chesterfield
College of Art and Design and at the age of 18, decided to take
a gap in her education to travel the world.
Betsy spent six years living and working in Italy, until becoming
fluent in the language, then worked as a travel representative
during the summer on the Italian coast, then during the winter
months in the Austrian mountains as a ski representative.
On returning to the UK, she moved to Plymouth, Devon, and continued
her travel around the world.
Whilst in Austrailia, she had the idea of setting up a small business
looking after peoples pets in their own homes whilst the owners were
on holiday.
During this period her passion for animals grew.
Whilst in Plymouth, Betsy met Roger, her ex-husband and returned
to Chesterfield in 1988 marrying in St Lucia, West Indies.
Betsy spent twenty years working as a dog control
officer for the local government authority and was heavily
involved
in
animal
welfare and
the
rehoming of stray, illtreated and unwanted dogs.
Her hobbies/interests include painting, horse riding, swimming,
snow skiing, target shooting, entertaining and the countryside. She also used to own
a Ducati Monster! She loves a good party and generally loves
life.
As she has no children, her dogs and parrots are her children.
After a short break Betsy started painting again in 1995, having painted
a portrait of her sisters’ dog as a gift. From that the commissions
started and she has painted ever since. She paints mainly animals due
to her
love
of
them, especially horses and dogs, but also undertakes paintings of landscapes, seascapes and nature.
